Ok so I'm thinking of building a double transfer case as a winter project here. I have read that you can run any combination of 1350 or 1354 case's with the most popular being the 1354 in the rear with a 1350 doubler. My question is why run a 1354 rear case? They seem to be harder to get and more expensive. Also what are you 8.8 31 spline guys doing for rear driveshafts? I thought of using an explorer rear shaft cut down to fit my Bronco II.
P.S. I'm going this Saturday to look about a 8.8 from a 01 Explorer:yahoo:

Main reason for the 1354 has a fixed front yoke, the 1350 uses a front slip yoke. It's doesn't matter a whole lot though. Just don't cut up rare/valuable 1354 manual for the doubler itself.

Ok so the fixed yoke won't move around as much. Understood on the not cutting the 1354 thing.

Fixed yoke doesn't move at all. When a fixed yoke is used, the slip joint is now part of the drive shaft, like the rear drive shaft on your truck.

Use an Explorer FRONT driveshaft cut down as your rear shaft. Best way to get a double-cardan for cheap (you'll want it with the shortened length from having the doubler).
You'll need a rear flange for fitting the shaft to the 8.8's flange, and a yoke for the t-case.

Thanks guys I feel a lot more confident about this axle swap and it seems logical to go ahead and swap in a 1354m t-case with the explorer axles.
