I need one last component for my 4.0L swap taking an 93 explorer engine and putting it in my 86 B2. I also changed the trans using a M4OD, thus the need for a longer front shaft. I calculate that I need a shaft that is 26 inches from the center of the front U joint to the center of the rear U joint. The existing old shaft is 23 1/2 inches. I thought that I found the correct part on ebay and bought an 88 ranger shaft. However, one of the U joints was smaller with a strange double U joint on one end. (I tried to inport a picture but I couldn't figure it out.)

What year shaft should I be searching for? Do I need to have my existing shaft made longer?

In the attachment is a picture of the shafts. The top picture is the old shaft from the B2 showing the slip joint that mates to the transfer case. I need the shaft dimension from the front U joint to the rear U joint is 26 inches. I would use the existing slip joint.
The lower picture is the shaft I purchased on ebay. On the right side is the double U joint.

try a front shaft from an 86 with an auto trans, not sure on the length but I know they're closer to the M5OD in length than the FM145 you probably took out

The incorrect shaft that I bought on ebay was from an automatic and the actual shaft was the correct length if you disconnected the double U joint. As I mentioned the Ujoint was smaller so it would not fit in the front pig.

You are not going to find the correct one. They did not make that combo with the 1350 internal slip. You need a 1354 and then you will be able to use that shaft you bought. Or have your original one lengthened.

The shaft that you bought is from an '87-'89 STX Ranger. You said it has a smaller U-joint, and I see its a double cardan (thats the strange double joint.) The STX came with a 13-50 with a fixed yoke for the front output with a small u-joint, all other 13-50s had a slip-yoke.

I'm assuming your still running a D28 front axle and a 13-50 T-case (you never answered the questions when country0001 asked). The shaft that should work is from a truck with a 13-50 and an A4LD. IIRC 86-89 was available with this combo, as long as it wasnt a STX Ranger.
