Hi, I have a 94 or 95 Ranger stick shift with a bad 4.0, and a nice running 2.9 out of a 89 or 90 Bronco. Could I put the 2.9 in place of the newer 4.0 without a lot of fuss and bother? I know this is opposite of the way most people swap engines, but the truck is not worth spending much money on! Thanks foa any advice!

If it were me I'd sell the 2.9 and buy a 4.0 to put in. Should end up being a break even deal and a lot less hassle.

Wellit be the exact opposite of a 4.0 swap. Check the tech library. But if the trucks not worth much, why do it?

You would have to swap the entire engine harness, ECU and have a LOT of wiring to do, escpecially if its a 95 (OBD2). Like said, I'd swap/sell the 2.9L for a 4.0L...

If its a good 2.9l, you can probably sell it for more than you can find a 4.0... lol
