Whats an average on road stock mileage. By stock I mean with maybe 31s at the biggest. The answers determine if I stick with Chevy or make the switch back to Ford so please give me a reason to offload my POS Chevy.

With a 2.8, terrible. Even worse with 31s and stock gears. I wouldn't expect any more than 17 on the highway, 14 around town.

Yeah I wouldn't expect a ton out of a carbureted 2.8L, though I would've been a little more optimistic than 17, maybe 19-20 after a few mods?

With a 2.9L EFI though, mine was gettin' 25 or so MPG before I lifted it (even after the lift & 35s, I'm still consistently in the low 20s for MPG).

The 2.9L came in '86-'90 models. Get a stickshift too, the autos guzzle a lot more gas.

^^ I knew that would happen. Thanks for the heads up on the carb vs efi. Is there a conversion from carb to efi?

Yeah but if you are shopping and want EFI just get one how you want it.

It is quite a bit of work putting a TBI rig on a 2.8...

My 2.8 with Duraspark got 17-18 on highway at cruising speeds. I felt it was terrible for the crappy performance you get. I put a 302 in it. I get as well if not a tad better on the highway with the V8 . . now you tell me . . . .
