Hey guys, I'm piecing together all the stuff I need to swap my FM146 out for an M5OD and ALSO do the 2wd -> 4wd swap.

For the transmission I've got:

Transmission
Clutch
Flywheel
Shifter Assembly
Block Plate
4.0L Manual Starter
4Ga wire for starter etc...

For the 2wd -> 4wd conversion I have:

1350 Transfer Case (Manual)
Shifter Assembly for transfer case
Front Drive shaft
Radius Arms/Axles, diff etc...
Bracket for front diff
Manual Hubs

Is there anything else I need to get? I have heard it mentioned to do a new slave cylinder. The guy I'm picking up the conversion stuff from says I will need the line from the clutch to the master cylinder and the neutral safety switch that attaches to the cylinder. Is that all correct? Am I forgetting anything?

P.s- I should probably ask....I'm assuming the 1350 transfer case fits with the M5OD, if not do I need to find a 1354?

You will also need a 16 AWG wire for the starter as well. Use the drawing below for wiring up your starter.

Unless you have a dummy transfer case on your BII now, you will need a 4wd rear drive shaft from a BII.

You will DEFINITELY want to do a new slave cylinder. That is the weakest and most prone to fail in a Ranger's clutch system.

The M50D and the 1350 fit just fine. When you get the slave cylinder and the line make sure there for the same year different years hook up just a little different and wont work. The neutral safety switch I would just bypass if you feel you can stay out of trouble without this safeguard.

If you are using your original '89 master, then you need an '89 slave.
If you swap to a '92 master, then get a '92 slave.

(in other words, they should match unless you don't mind swapping the lines themselves)

Ok cool, I'll stick with my 89 slave.....does that apply even though I'm doing the 4.0L clutch or should I be getting the 4.0L slave?

Slaves (the internal type) are the same other than the line coupling which varies by year.

When I did my 4.0L clutch, I just requested a '90 BII 2.9L slave.

This is just my opinion, but if you can find a line with the quick coupler, I'd go with the later slave. Saves headaches and the master line isn't hard to swap. punch the roll pin out, pull the line, and put it back together with the new line.

my clutch kit came with a slave out of a 94, so I was stuck having to change my master cyl out to the newer version. One thing I ran into was that the master cylinder is oriented ever so slightly differently so that the end of the cylinder interefered with the plastic inner fender. I cut a hole in the inner fender to clear the master. Would have been much easier to just use the master/slave combo from a pre 92.
