Good you got home safely. That shit's gotta be nerve-racking, with a wobbly front wheel.

When did you notice that it was broken or what told you it did other then seeing the oil under it? Looks like it has just broke right where you parked it.

I doubt it Jay. The one that broke was 28 spline and it was scrapped. The ex axle that was in it I believe he pulled the gears and used a different axle, this one is from a fw truck...

Yes it is Ricks gears in a full width axle.

I noticed it when it went BANG, and I could no longer go forward.

Okay, it's tomorrow, crack that baby open.

I don't see how you broke a 8.8 setup.

But just driving to work... Hopefully a ring or pinion gear didnt bite the dust.

Settle down people. I just got off work.

I snapped the cross pin. I have spares and would only be a 20 minute fix, but I don't have a spare diff cover. Mine won't hold fluid anymore. Plus I'm not sure if the carrier is compromised. I'll grab another since I will be diff shopping for the Focus as well on my next junkyard run.

And yes this was done at 40 mph on a straight road.

Mini spools put a lot of stress on the cross-pin and never unlock to relieve the stress. This is why a properly welded diff is encouraged over a mini spool, it transfers most of the force through the side gears welded to the carrier instead.
