I have a couple of real decent pics of the valve body area on photobucket. They are from when I swapped the shifter lever on an AWD Aerostar A4LD to a Ranger/Explorer.

the 4ald to manual swaps are missing data about external hook ups, tranny hump plates, driveshaft lengths and configuration (BTW 88 reg cab with Koyo and 13-50 TC is 53 1/2 flange to flange,) no info on pre 84 tranny's with weird bellhousings

Transmissions

How about info on NV3550 swap from -01 to -04 wrangler? The early bronco guys are using this trans behind small block Fords with an adapter from Advance or others. Ratios seem right and it is rated for small v8 torque. Advance has an adapter that mates to the 1350 t-case.
Input spline count is the same as Chevy, and the output spline matches the 1350. I am doing the homework on this because I am going to swap a 5.0 for the 2.9 in my '89 ranger 5 speed 4wd ext cab, I want to keep it stick shift and the other choices (Mazda or ZF 5 speeds) don't look good. I will document my research on this and will do a write up with pictures when the swap happens.
My other path was a switch to automatic; how about some info on getting a 4r70w to shift with '89 electronics (+ baumann add-on)?

I just wanted to add that when I did my tranny service here recently that Ford is recommending Mecron V on all automatic transmissions now.

how about a pictorial walk-thru on installing a hurst shifter on the M5OD's? i know some of us already have them, every so often someone will ask about the hurst and wonder about the "how-to" of it.

One more thing that should be updated is the info for the M50D-r1HD

The r1HD can be bolted to a OHV and SOHC 4.0, but the r1 cant be bolted to the SOHC. There is an extra bolt hole on the r1HD that allows it to be bolted to either transmission (at the 2 O'clock position).

You can see the there is an extra hole (top left) to accommodate both 4.0 bolt patterns

This is the back of a SOHC 4.0. Towards the right of the centerline of the block, just under the passenger side head there is a 'blank' spot.(this hole would be tapped out andused on an OHV)

Here is a pic of the r1HD bolted to a SOHC. You can see the extra bolt hole for the OHV pattern in this pic.

I couldn,t agree more with you, Jim, about the need for more info concerning transmission swaps. As Clint Eastwood said in one of the spaghetti westerns,"Sometimes a man's life depends on a mere scrap of information".

How about info on swapping in a ZF behind a 302 into a ranger. Its got a good first gear and I know it can be done, just don't know if the transfercase would bolt up.:icon_idea:

I know this trans. is pretty big, but as well as the ZF, I have heard of people getting a C-6 in there rangers and B-2s.

an E4OD would be a good one too. I'm planning a 302 swap and haven't really decided between AOD and E4OD.

I was under the impression that the ZF was way too big for the tunnel, even with a 3" body lift, and required huge modification to the tunnel and firewall. I could be wrong though.

I see advances adaptors makes a adaptor for a 60 deg. th700 behind a 4.0 v-6. It might be interesting to see if it worth it or not.

Transmission Identification

I think the website, DRIVETRAIN.COM should be included in your tech library. It allows you to indentify the actual transmission in your vehicle using the identification tag on the side of the tranny. Using the tag takes away guesswork. You don't have to wonder if the previous owner replaced the transmission, your truck is an off year with a different trans or use a picture to identify your current transmission.

My 84 2wd is on it's 6th TK, and I haven't found squat about swaps...
it's getting harder to keep the old truck on the road,
